SIZE: 40" x 14"
WEIGHT: 7 pounds
Artists, jewelers, designers, and architects of the the art nouveau and art deco periods of the late 1800s and early 1900s found the dragonfly irresistible. Its geometrical wings resemble stained glass windows, its colors shimmer with metallic iridescence, and its highly symmetrical form is like a tiny intricate machine. Nature has already done much of the designer's work. Across jewelry, stained-glass lamps, and building facades in Paris, the dragonfly held a central place in both Art Nouveau and Art Deco design. Like all raging fashions, these styles quickly migrated to New York and beyond. This sculptural guitar titled “La Guitare Horloge Libellule” (literally “The Dragonfly Clock Guitar”), carries the art deco aesthetic into the present. As if on a hot summer day, brass dragonfly figurines flit about over rivers of gold, silver, and rhinestone. At the center, a massive resin dragonfly watches over a working clock.
